Mr. Coaxum is a member of Greenspoon Marder’s Utilities and Energy and Governmental Practice Groups. Mr. Coaxum also has significant experience in corporate law. He routinely advises corporate clients in matters involving LLC and partnership formations, mutual non-disclosure agreements, letters of intent, term sheets, joint ventures, finance agreements, acquisition agreements, employment agreements, and third party service contracts.
Mr. Coaxum concurrently serves as General Counsel to a financial services firm offering corporate advisory, public capital markets, private equity and debt, and insurance brokerage services. In this capacity, Mr. Coaxum serves as primary lead for private equity and debt lending transactions including capital raise efforts.
Mr. Coaxum previously served as the Chief Legal Officer to an alternative energy development company in connection with the production of electricity and biodiesel products from various alternative energy sources. Mr. Coaxum’s duties included the structuring, drafting, and negotiation of agreements for the development, construction, financing, fuel and feedstock supply, product sales, ownership and operation of alternative energy facility projects.
Mr. Coaxum joined the firm from Saxon, Gilmore, Carraway & Gibbons, P.A., where he was the managing partner of its Orlando office. Previously, Mr. Coaxum dedicated over nine years of service to the Central Florida community as a senior member of the Litigation Section of the Orange County Attorney's Office As chief contracts counsel for Orange County, Mr. Coaxum advised on matters involving the County’s administration of its commercial contracts, leases, vendor agreements, Invitations for Bid, and Requests for Proposals. Mr. Coaxum also led the successful defense of the County, including its Convention Center, in several multi-million dollar lawsuits for injunctive relief and damages for alleged arbitrary and capricious conduct involving bid awards; eminent domain proceedings, including orders of taking hearings, litigation, and mediation; land use, and zoning matters, including challenges to its Comprehensive Plan; and environmental law matters, involving Class I wetland impact violations. In addition, Mr. Coaxum handled Orange County's labor and employment disputes for numerous years and was lead trial counsel in several binding arbitration proceedings for employee grievances for suspensions, demotions, and terminations. Because of his expertise in procurement matters, Mr. Coaxum was also recently appointed as a Neutral Hearing Officer for the Orlando/Orange County Expressway Authority by its Executive Director in a bid protest involving a $1 million solicitation.
Prior to his work in the public sector, Mr. Coaxum practiced commercial litigation with Greenberg Traurig, LLP. Mr. Coaxum earned his law degree from the University of Florida College of Law (J.D., 1995), where he was a Virgil Hawkins Fellowship recipient, named to the Dean's List, and a member of Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity. Mr. Coaxum earned his A.B. degree from Harvard University with Cum Laude recommendation in 1991, where he was enrolled in the Government Honors Program. In 1993, Mr. Coaxum served as a Judicial Intern for the Honorable Ursula Ungaro-Benages, United States District Court, Southern District of Florida.
